TATKAAL Passport

"TATKAAL" Passport Service is an ‘Emergency’ Passport Service. All applicants (except below mentioned categories) residing in the Jurisdiction of CGI, Houston and having valid Passport and Valid Visa Status (i.e. Visa Page/EAD/Green Card/I – 797, etc.) are eligible to apply for re-issue of Passport under Tatkaal Passport Scheme.

Following Category of applicants can not apply under Tatkaal Passport Scheme:

a). Lost / Damaged beyond recognition / Stolen Passport (Lost/Damaged/Stolen category applicants may apply under regular passport category, the turnaround period for renewal of such passport is 2-3 days on receipt of completed documents)

b). Renewal of Short Validity Passport (SVP)

c). Major Change in Name (cases different from minor change case)

d). Change in Sex

e). Change of Appearance

f). Change/ Correction of DoB

g). Change/ Correction of Place of birth

h). Change in Signature

i). Change of Father/ Mother name

Documents Requirement after the Passport (Amendment) Rules, 2019

a. If an applicant of the age of 18 years and above desires to obtain passport under Tatkal scheme,he shall submit any three of the following documents namely:-

  1. (i) Aadhaar card or e-Aadhaar containing the 12 digit Aadhaar number or 28-digit Aadhaar enrollment ID printed on the Aadhaar enrollment slip issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)

  2. (ii) Electors photo identity card (EPIC)

  3. (iii) Permanent Account Number(PAN)

  4. (iv) Driving licence(valid within the jurisdiction of state of submission of applicant)

  5. (v) Bank Passbook or kisan passbook or post office Passbook

  6. (vi) Student photo identity card issued by a recognized educational institution

  7. (vii) Birth certificate issued under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act,1969(18 of 1969)

  8. (viii) Service photo identity card issued by State Government or Central Government, public sector undertakings, local bodies or public limited companies

  9. (ix) Pension document such as ex-servicemen’s pension book or pension payment order issued to retired Government employees, ex-servicemens’s widow or dependent certificate, old age pension order.

  10. (x) Schedule caste or schedule tribe or other backward class certificate

  11. (xi) Arms licence issued under the Arms Act, 1959 (54 of 1959)

  12. (xii) Ration card and

  13. (xiii) Last passport issued (in case of reissue only)

b. If an applicant below the age of 18 years desires to obtain passport under Tatkal scheme,he shall submit any two of the following documents namely:-

  1. (i) Aadhaar card or e-Aadhaar containing the 12 digit Aadhaar number or 28-didit Aadhaar enrolment ID printed on the Aadhaar enrolment slip issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)

  2. (ii) Permanent Account Number(PAN)

  3. (iii) Student photo identity card issued by a recognized educational institution

  4. (iv) Birth certificate issued under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act,1969(18 of 1969)

  5. (v) Ration card and

  6. (vi) Last passport issued (in case of reissue only)

Processing Time :

  • One Working Day (excluding CKGS’s processing time), if Police Verification Report (PVR) is clear and all documents submitted are in order.

  • If Police Verification Report (PVR) is not clear or pending, the processing time will be approximately 30 days or more (excluding CKGS’s processing time). In such cases, processing time depends on the availability of clear PVR form Concerned authorities in India.

  • In complex cases, such as adoption, application on behalf of a minor from single parent, major change in name, duplicate passport, doubtful documentation, the processing time will be approximately 30 days or more (excluding CKGS’s processing time).

Note :

  • Issue of passport is subject to provisions of Passport Act 1967 and relevant rules/regulations and no adverse report. The final authority for the issuance of passport under the Tatkaal scheme lies with Consulate General of India,Houston and no claim for reimbursement of fees will be entertained.

  • No bookings or travel arrangements should be confirmed until a Passport decision has been made. Consulate will not be responsible for any financial loss of bookings made in anticipation of obtaining a Passport under Tatkaal Passport Scheme.

  • It is a criminal offense under the Passport Act 1967 to furnish any false information or to suppress any material information with view to obtaining passport.
