National Institute of Solar Energy, an autonomous institution of Ministry of New and Renewable (MNRE), is the apex institute for research and development in the field Solar Energy. The Government of India converted 25-year-old Solar Energy Centre (SEC) to an autonomous institution in September 2013 to assist the MNRE in implementing the National Solar Mission and coordinate in research, technology, and other related works.

National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) established in Chennai in 1998 by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India is an autonomous research and development institution. It is a knowledge-based institution of high quality and dedication, offers services and seeks to find complete solutions for the kinds of difficulties and improvements in the entire spectrum of the wind energy sector by carrying out further research.

Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Renewable Energy (SSS-NIRE), Kapurthala (Punjab) is an autonomous Institution of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Govt. of India. The aim of the Institute is to carry out and facilitate research, design, development, testing, standardization & technology demonstration. It will eventually lead to commercialization of R&D output with a focus on bioenergy, biofuels & synthetic fuels in solid, liquid & gaseous forms for transportation, portable & stationary applications, development of hybrid / integrated energy systems.

Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) is a Mini Ratna (Category–I) non-banking financial institution under the administrative control of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). IREDA is primarily engaged in promoting, developing and extending financial assistance for setting up projects relating to new and renewable sources of energy and energy efficiency/conservation with the motto 'ENERGY FOR EVER'. IREDA is the single largest “Green Financier” in the country. It caters to all technologies of the RE sector and predominantly provides financing for sector.

Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) is a Schedule-A CPSE under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for implementation of schemes and development of Renewable Energy projects (Solar, Wind, Hybrid, Round the Clock RE, H2 etc.) etc. in India and abroad. Being a trading license holder, SECI also acts as an intermediary between the project developers and Distribution Companies (DISCOMs).

Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) is the nodal agency at the central level for promotion of grid-connected and off-grid renewable energy in the country. Ministry’s programmes are implemented in close coordination with State Nodal Agencies (SNAs) for renewable energy (RE).
