Sagar Samrat: A working horse that never tires
  • ONGC's first Jack-up Rig, Sagar Samrat, had been synonymous with ONGC’s iconic discovery of Bombay High in 1970s which inspired a generation of young engineers & scientists to dedicate careers in the Indian E&P industry.

  • In the work of three decades as a jack up rig, Sagar Samrat drilled 130 wells and has been engaged with 14 great discoveries of oil and gas plants which added 3 billion tonnes of oil and gas. the rig was de-commissioned in 2005.
  • However, ONGC management decided to convert it into a Mobile Offshore Production Unit (MOPU) from an earlier Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU) to be deployed at WO-16 Cluster Fields under its new avatar.

  • Sagar Samrat finally as a MOPU presently deployed at ONGC’s WO-16 field. MOPU was jacked up on 16.04.22. Pre-commissioning & commissioning activities are in progress and oil and gas production is expected by December 2022.
