Birth Registration

It is mandatory to register birth of a child within one year of its occurrence if the birth has taken place outside India. Registration of birth is contingent on production of a notarised affidavit by both the parents that the minor does not hold the passport of another country nor do the parents intend to obtain passport of another country till the child attains full age.

The parents must also produce proof of having notified the US authorities of their intent to retain Indian passport for their child who is born in the US and not seek a US passport until he/she attains full age.

Applications submitted in the Consulate can be collected on the same day between 4 PM to 5 PM. Applications received through post will be serviced in 7 working days.

Required documents:

  1. Completed application form for "Birth Registration" icon-image  with one passport size photo affixed in the box.
  2. Fill in all the information correctly. Incomplete application will be returned without service.

  4. Applicant's (both the parents) valid Original passport and a photocopy of pages containing personal particulars (first three and last two pages).
  5. Copy of valid Visa/Green Card of the parents.
  6. Notarised affidavit by both the parents that the minor does not hold the passport of another country nor do the parents intend to obtain passport of another country till the child attains full age.
  7. Birth Certificate issued by the local authority.
  8. Copy of Proof of address (utility bill, driver license or lease agreement).
  9. Fee $25 and $2 for ICWF.
  10. Fee is to be paid by cashier’s check or money order drawn only in favor of "Consulate General of India". There should be a seperate cashier’s check or money order for ICWF Fee. Cash payment is also accepted at the counter of the Consulate. Applicants are requested to come with exact change for efficient services.
  11. Personal checks, Debit cards and Credit cards are not accepted.
  12. If application is being sent by post please sent a seperate $20/- cashier’s check or money order fee for return mail. No prepaid envelopes are accepted.
